Militzer & Münch France opened an affiliate in Algiers, M&M Militzer & Münch SPA, in partnership with a shareholder and renowned entrepreneur active in international transports.

St. Gallen, 04 October 2017. The Militzer & Münch Group increases its Maghreb commitment by opening an affiliate in Algiers. The international forwarding and logistics group has long been a specialist in North Africa transports. With Militzer & Münch organizations in Morocco, Tunisia, and now Algeria, the Maghreb activities in cooperation with the European Militzer & Münch organizations, especially with Militzer & Münch France, are taken one step further.

Militzer & Münch opened an affiliate in Algiers, M&M Militzer & Münch SPA, in partnership with a shareholder and renowned entrepreneur active in international transports. The Militzer & Münch Group thus takes into account the steady increase in Algeria shipments. “With this new location, we substantially strengthen our presence in the North African market,” says Dr. Lothar Thoma, CEO M&M Militzer & Münch International Holding AG. “At the same time we strive to even better adapt our service portfolio to this special and challenging market.”

Three Militzer & Münch affiliates in the Maghreb

Militzer & Münch France, founded in 1976 and on a steady growth course especially during these past ten years, is at the core of the Militzer & Münch Maghreb traffics. Militzer & Münch France entered the Algerian market in 2007 with groupage transports; a commercial delegation office was opened in 2009. From 2011 to 2016, due to the close cooperation of all French branch offices on the Algeria traffics, constant growth in Algeria-bound shipments and volumes was generated. Together with the Militzer & Münch organizations in Morocco (founded in 1986) and in Tunisia (1996), the new Algerian Militzer & Münch location strengthens the successful presence of Militzer & Münch in the major countries of the Maghreb region.

Tailored solutions for a demanding market

In a constantly changing market, Militzer & Münch offers services that go beyond the mere transportation and documentation. Among others, the Militzer & Münch Maghreb solutions include weekly departures of dangerous goods groupage transports, packaging and quality control, labelling, order picking and container stowing at the 5,000 square meter Vitrolles logistics terminal with 17 docks.

The Algerian market

Algeria has 41.7 million inhabitants and is the biggest of the Maghreb states. The People's Democratic Republic of Algeria is rich in natural resources – at this time, oil and gas exports account for 60% of the state’s revenue. The Algerian market is imbalanced towards imports, which account for 85% of the goods flows. Contrary to the other Maghreb countries, there is also little delocalization.

The government is opening up the country to export by enforcing economic diversification to decrease dependence on the oil and gas sector with its immense drop in prices. The mining of iron ore and phosphate deposits, but also industrial production is to be increased. Country wide, industrial cluster zones are being erected. This will benefit the transport industry and balance Europe-Algeria and Algeria-Europe transports in the long run.
